Spring is the perfect time to bring texture into the bedroom!
When we start to see signs of Spring, we rid our closets of coats and boots, we start thinking of garden parties, and we ditch all dark colours & heavy fabrics for all things light & airy.
White, fresh bedding is always a Spring favourite. Not to worry, your fresh white bed needn't be boring and it can even incorporate a blanket or two, because let's get real - Spring is truly temperamental these days.
For a quick look at what textures are best for each season, see our earlier blog here.
South America has been the source of Alpaca wool for thousands of years. The most luxurious wool is from Baby Alpacas under the age of one, shorn under their necks where the finest and softest fleece is found. The fleece is naturally white, grey, brown and black. It can be dyed any colour once it has been spun into fabric.
To get an idea of how luxuriously soft baby alpaca wool is, it is the closest you can come to cashmere, without actually being cashmere. Its fibres are light weight, hypo allergenic and naturally lustrous. It's hollow fibres act as an insulator making it very warm.
With the fickle temperatures Spring brings and our desire to shred off all remnants of winter, we often need a layer or two for added warmth on the bed. Baby Alpaca has the capacity for warmth, without the heavy, weighted feel of a thick blanket or duvet. It also wicks away moisture with it's natural properties, creating a dry environment for a truly perfect sleep! In terms of texture, baby alpaca offers a gentle wool feel to the room, it's fine and lustrous fibres add a luxurious finished touch. It looks lovely as a blanket, drawn up to the top or even as a throw tossed gently at the end of the bed. Choose a light green or pink for a gentle infusion of Spring.
The Delphi throw is a soft, lush throw featuring a paired colour combo weaved to perfection. The natural colours lend to all seasons and is a real crowd pleaser from the master bedroom to the family sofa! Shop it here.
Liam is a naturally lustrous, brushed, soft Baby Alpaca throw featuring a fresh, short, modern, organic-looking eyelash fringe. Shop it here.
Linen is made from the stalks of the Flax plant. Linen is stronger than cotton, dries quickly and is more tolerant to the effects of sunlight, making it an excellent choice for bedding. The fibres' low elasticity lends itself to wrinkling, however as it becomes more and more popular in it's use as bedding, certain styles have become more forgiving. Quilting the linen, for instance, for use as a coverlet delivers a pretty fine look and wrinkling is far less noticeable.
Linen can be light, linen can be heavy, linen can be everything in between. It can be subtle, using it as an accent in a bedroom. It can be bold, using it to upholster your bed, as a duvet cover with matching shams, or even a quilted throw for extra visibility! Being a natural fibre it breathes well, wears well (when thickness is matched to its intended purpose, i.e. thicker as upholstery, lighter as drapery, etc).
We heart linen, it's no secret - but who doesn't! It lends to an organic, sophisticated but not fussy look that suits any style of bedroom. It brings in the fresh, clean feel of warmer weather and comes in an array of weights that allow for a selection that reflects your true personal style. It knows no bounds in terms of colour and suits every part of the bedroom from upholstered bed to decorative pillow. In a time where the untidy, just slept in look is sought after, select linen sheets and duvet covers deliver a comfy look that feels like home. What's more, it provides a gentle warmth that is perfect for those not so kind intermittent weeks of Spring.

Our preference is a waffle knit made from 100% cotton that is well sourced and well fabricated. You can also find waffle knit made of microfibre & polyester fibres. Well sourced cotton is found primarily in Europe, specifically Italy and Portugal. Long staple cotton is a variety of cotton that produces exceptionally fine and strong fibres, resulting in product that is ultra comfortable and long lasting. The plant source is more difficult to grow and yields a smaller harvest than regular cotton crops, the long staple cotton comes in at a higher price. The fabric is woven into the waffle pattern, creating a weave that allows air to circulate and a finished product that is relatively light weight.
Waffle knit is a great choice for those who tend to get too warm when they sleep. A cotton waffle blanket will provide warmth and allow for air circulation, keeping the moisture at bay and providing a comfortable, dry sleep. Whether you choose a throw or a blanket, the plush waffle is practical, feels amazing and offers a subtle texture that ties a room together.
A waffle cotton blanket is another great option for the fluctuating temperatures of Spring. It's heavy enough to keep you warm while its woven fibres provide ample air circulation to prevent overheating. The texture itself lends to an airy, natural feel that is perfect for Spring decor. It can lighten up a heavy textured bed, or complete a minimalist, more contemporary look. Just a small splash of waffle with the use of a throw is quite effective in updating your room with a fresh, comfy look.
Roll up your duvet to the foot of the bed and add another layer with this soft, cotton waffle weave blanket. A staple in any traditional linen cupboard, this blanket becomes a design statement. Shop it here.
