Tips to Buying Towels
Choosing a towel is a little like the fable of the three bears. This bear liked it super soft while the other bear preferred a rougher texture and the third bear liked it somewhere in the middle. Here are some things to consider so you get the right feel and look for you.
STEP 1 - TOWEL CONSTRUCTION, FABRIC CONTENT AND WEIGHT
Variety of options: Combed, Ring spun Zero twist, terry, microfiber or two- ply. The most popular these days is the Micro cotton it combines a cellulose fiber from beech tress with cotton, which makes it incredibly soft and plush. Another key is that loops make the towels more absorbent while twists make it more durable. The best is Egyptian cotton with the runners up being Micro Cotton and Supima cotton, which come from Egypt, Turkey Brazil and the US. While weight is personal, a luxury towel will often weigh in at 700 grams. Good solid towels average in the 500 range. Again the construction and fiber type ultimately help determine the quality.
STEP 2 - SIZE AND IT'S USE
Bath sheets range from 35X60 to 40X70 (If you have a small washing machine, it could be an issue.)
Bath towel range is 27X52 to 30X58
Hand Towel range is 16X28 to 18X30*
Tip Towels range is 11X18
Wash Cloths mostly is 13X13
*The term Hand, Guest and Tip are often mixed up; check sizing.
STEP 3 - COLOR & DESIGN
Towels can be the decorative accessories; whether they are your splash of color or they are personalized with a monogram or colored embroidery.
