A new year, a new score; that is to say that we have arrived at 20 years and are looking forward to the next 20 with great anticipation!
In today's world of ever morphing technologies and trends, it is no small accomplishment to make it to 10, much less 20 years in the world of retail. All industries - be it design, home furnishings or textiles - have undergone profound change and the majority are still deciphering what it it means for their future.
20 years ago we began with one small office on the second floor of a grey stone walk up (though it felt like 10). In time, TOILE took over the entire floor, even expanding to the basement to showcase the best in 5 star and organic mattresses. In 2016 we made the big move to a main floor location just a few doors away. Large windows shower our showroom with light. Better street front visibility allows the passerby to stop in and check out not only our sheets but mattresses, upholstered beds, our full range of bed, bath and table linens, as well as draperies and blinds.
In this time, we have also continued to stay on top of technological advances. We know the design process is changing for the designer as well. Less time to browse product, we offer our designers the ability to browse online and even conference in via Face Time. Our clients can stay on top of the latest trends and products as they follow us on Instagram. Our most popular, vetted products (that's right, we actually try our products) are available for purchase online, with free in store pick up and reasonable shipping rates. Stay tuned over the course of our twentieth year, as we continue to adapt our website to better suit the needs of designers.
When Kristin (Kristin Shannon, Ivory Moon Design) and I first dreamed up the idea of Toile, we were looked upon as somewhat suspicious, given that "showroom" was another term for back door retailing. Our goal was to provide the interior design trade with access to an assortment of unique fine linens, rarely available within Canada, let alone Montreal. We also wanted to compliment our selection with exceptional turn key services. While we realized our concept was unique, we certainly didn't anticipate the "showroom" trend that is now so prevelent.
White glove service and support, before, during and after purchase, was second nature for us when we launched but it was second guessed as being too personal and excessive. In today's retail climate, concierge service is all the rage.
While many have jumped on these boutique, concierge service band wagons we haven't lost our edge. TOILE puts the customer first evert time! We aren't in the business of quick sales and cheap gimmicks. Our designers know that they can rely on us every step of the way. Whether we are measuring for window coverings & bedskirts, recommending the right pillows & duvets, or creating custom pieces - our dedication to real quality and service shines. While we cater to the design trade, we do not leave the consumer out in the cold. We create the perfect bedroom for your individual needs, from mattress to throw pillow. Replicating a five star environment with the flare of your unique style and taste, we bring sleep to a whole new level. For our clients, past and present, the TOILE standard is passed onto each new generation. We love watching our client's children building homes of their own, remembering the vital components to restful and beautiful bedrooms.
